11 Industry-Focused PhD Projects

We are looking for 11 dynamic, passionate, driven and focused PhD students to lead strategic fundamental research to transform the Australian Bioresource Industry. PALS is a new industry-focused ARC research transformation Hub which aims to convert renewable biomass and waste streams from the Australian Pulp, Paper and Forestry Industry into high-value products in existing and developing markets. PALS will leverage world-leading Australian and international research capabilities in chemistry, materials science, and chemical engineering to create new materials, chemicals leading to companies and jobs in an emerging Australian bio-economy. Research will identify new applications and products derived from lignocellulose and will feed the pharmaceutical, chemicals, plastics and food packaging industries. PALS PhD candidates will benefit from interdisciplinary research, professional skills and networks with Universities and industry.

Post-doctoral Fellowship РNatural Nanomaterial Science and Engineering

PALS invites passionate, dedicated, and highly qualified applicants interested by the interface academic-industry for a postdoctoral fellowship in our team to conduct innovative, multidisciplinary research at BioPRIA in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Monash University.

The successful candidate will have recently completed a PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related and have a background in surface, colloids, materials and interface engineering, nanomaterial, natural polymers/cellulosic materials characterization. Experience in producing, functionalizing, characterizing and developing applications for nanocellulose fibers, nanocellulose crystal and natural polymer gels will be highly regarded. You will have a strong research publications record, excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, and the proven ability to manage multiple project autonomously.

Post-doctoral Fellowship – Advanced Cellulosic Materials Characterization

PALS is looking for a passionate, dedicated and highly qualified applicant interested by the interface academic-industry to join our team to conduct innovative, multidisciplinary research at BioPRIA in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Monash University.

The successful candidate will have recently completed a PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related and have a background in surface, colloids, materials and interface engineering, nanomaterial, natural polymers/cellulosic materials characterization. Experience on the Synchtrotron (SAXS/WAXS), with  neutron-based techniques ( SANS, USANS, reflectometry) and advanced  microscopy ( SEM,TEM, AFM, confocal) will be highly regarded. You will have a strong research publications record, excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, and the proven ability to manage multiple project autonomously.
